WAPI? is a platform designed to help users discover, connect and interact with local businesses, artisans and initiatives
It provides a range of options to help users find local, authentic, meaningful products and experiences, according to their needs and interests, away from the dining, shopping and social experiences offered by go-to malls.
It focuses on referencing hidden treasures and shares the inspiring and unique
stories behind the businesses and initiatives referenced, allowing users to gain an insight into the social and/or environmental impact of their consumption choices.
WAPI? also provides options for users to support causes they care about through
volunteering and donation opportunities.
Rebecca moved to Nairobi in 2016 to conduct a study on the Kenyan social economy, which brought her to discover a wealth of exciting artisans, businesses and initiatives. She was surprised, however, at how little known many of these were, relying on word of mouth for any visibility. Fascinated by the power of digital, she came up with the idea of regrouping all of the gems she found in a simple mobile application, making them accessible to all.
Life is full of fortunate encounters – Rebecca met Jess over a cup of coffee who loved the idea and together they started the WAPI? adventure. They soon expanded the team to include Joseph’s technical expertise and Nadya’s beautiful writing skills, making the WAPI? dream a reality.
Together, they aim to uncover and bring you the best of what Nairobi has to offer, supporting the local economy by working with local artisans, businesses and initiative
